PoliePals is the exploration layer around a real tool. The tool is the Truth Beam, a way to make a recording
whose provenance can be checked afterwards, and the wider Reality Kernel that contains it. The universe around them is story and
experience, never offered as evidence. This page says why the story exists and how to read it.

stands, and what is and is not claimed. It introduces the exploration layer, imaginal story and proposed governance, none of it

## 1. Why a story at all
The Truth Beam and the Reality Kernel are technical, and abstract. Those are the things the story is wrapped around. The
PoliePals universe exists to make them graspable: a small cast of characters and places in which each name is a label for a
concrete mechanism, never a claim about the world. Read as a map, the story points back at the machinery. Read as a story, it is
simply meant to be a good one.
## 2. Three layers, kept apart
Everything here belongs to one of three layers, and they are deliberately not mixed.
The demonstrated technology. The digital Truth Beam is the one demonstrated instance: demonstrated means
built and measured, and its evidence is published at [truthbeam.com](https://truthbeam.com) as evidence recomputable within stated bounds (one rig, two sessions, one performer, one non-adaptive forger, evaluated within-session; the headline classifier recomputes from published scores, the verifier rerun needs the public weights and corpus),
for anyone who cares to run the check there. The wider formalism is at [poliebotics.com](https://poliebotics.com). This is the only layer offered as proof, and within it only the digital Truth Beam is offered as
evidence.
A personal account. The author's first-hand testimony of how the work came to be is part of this layer; it is
published as [The testament, as BOSUN has it](testament.html), and it stays what it always was: testimony, never evidence for the technology.
The imaginal universe. The characters, the places, the auras (each character's colour, worn as a glow), the
proposed governance, and the open fringe (where novel claims are tested and never simply believed). This is exploration: a way of
thinking out loud, not a set of claims about your world.
One rule sits over all of it: your own engagement with reality is the final authority. Take what is useful and
leave the rest.
## 3. Where each layer stands
The table breaks the technology layer into its three parts and adds the story layer. The personal account has no row: it is
testimony, and it stands on its own page.

Enabled in the filings is patent language: the filing describes the thing in enough detail that, the applicant holds, a skilled
person could build it. That says nothing about whether the thing has been built. Only the row marked demonstrated is offered as
evidence.
## 4. The person behind the work
The story here is careful to avoid a hero's tale. Behind it is a short account: someone happened to see the world a certain
way, followed where that led, and then built instruments so that no one, himself first of all, has to be taken on trust. The whole
point of the project is the opposite of "believe me": it is "check for yourself." The story is there to be understood, questioned,
or set aside, never to be believed on anyone's say-so.
## 5. The PoliePals mask
The PoliePals mask belongs to the collective rather than to any one person. It is the bauta costume worn by the
masked PoliePals, with novel reflective conical-hole eyes. It is [3D-printable](mask/README.html), so anyone can make
one and take part on the far side of the camera.
## 6. What is real, and what is not
Real: the technology, the trade marks, and the patent filings. They stand at different points, and the page
keeps them apart. The digital Truth Beam is demonstrated. The Reality Kernel formalism is written down. The Filing-2 governance
is proposed: the filing describes it and the story plays it, which is why it also appears in the imaginal layer above. The
self-witnessing specimens are enabled in Filing 3 (patent pending), described in the filing
and not demonstrated. All of it is genuine work; only the first item is offered as evidence.
Not claims: the universe, the auras, Narravite (the story's central substance), and the fringe. These are exploration and storytelling, offered as neither factual nor
financial claims.
